Romania men's national water polo team defeated the Maltese team with a score of 14-9 (6-2, 3-3, 2-0, 3-4) on Thursday evening, in Valletta (Malta), in their last match in Group A of Division II of the 2026 World Cup.
After 14-9 vs. Slovakia and 28-5 vs. South Africa, the tricolors achieved a new success, with goals scored by Vlad Georgescu 4, David Belenyesi 2, Andrei Neamtu 2, Andrei Prioteasa 2, Francesco Iudean 1, Matei Lutescu 1, Sebastian Oltean 1, Levente Vancsik 1.
Ivan Nagaev scored 5 goals for the hosts, Darren Zammit 2, Jeremy Abela 1, Elijah Schembri 1.
Romania will play in the round of 16 on Friday of the tournament.
The top two teams in the standings, along with Australia, as the host of the final phase, qualify for the final tournament.
