A light earthquake measuring a magnitude of ml 4.2 occurred on Wednesday, at 10:23 local time, in the Vrancea seismic zone, Vrancea county, according the National Institute for Research and Development for Earth Physics (INCDFP) data published on Wednesday.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 90.1 kilometres, near the following cities: 40 km northwest of Focsani, 71 km east of Sfantu-Gheorghe, 77 km north of Buzau, 82 km south of Bacau, 86 km southwest of Barlad and 87 km east of Brasov.
In October, Romania experienced 22 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2 to 4.2 on the Richter scale.
The strongest quakes this year, both measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale, occurred on 13 February in Buzau county and on 11 May in Vrancea county.
Last year, the most significant earthquake measured 5.4 in magnitude and occurred in Buzau county on 16 September.
