The defence industry is one of the most important and dynamic in Romania, which is why we have held numerous discussions with American companies interested in developing innovative products in our country, with the aim of consolidating strength and stability of this region, Romania's Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Stefan-Radu Oprea said on Wednesday, told Agerpres.
He participated in the second edition of the "US - Romania Economic Forum: Innovation for Prosperity" organised by AmCham on the sidelines of the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) Business Forum.
Invited to the panel "Driving Bilateral Trade and Investment: Pathways to Transatlantic Collaboration," Oprea emphasised in the beginning of his speech the opportune moment that Romania is passing through, due to its strategic position.
"The importance of the Black Sea has become more and more obvious lately, and Romania, as a pillar of stability in this region, is also gaining more and more importance. We hope this way to strengthen confidence in our potential and then to establish increasingly more bridges between American and Romanian companies. One of my goals is to bring technology from the US to Romania and to develop successful businesses together," Oprea said.
Romania wishes to consolidate with the US, not only a solid relationship of friendship, but also strong business ties, based on the Strategic Partnership signed between the two countries. Currently, Romania offers a favorable climate for investments, with strategic access to the European market, with business opportunities in sectors such as technology, energy, healthcare, infrastructure development and, last but not least, the defence industry.
Defence industry is a priority for Romania, especially in the current geopolitical context. Constant efforts are made to increase the competitiveness of this sector, according to the Romanian Ministry of Economy.
In Oprea's opinion, Romania can be a regional leader as it plays a vital role inisde the Three Seas Initiative, which aims to ensure the improvement of connectivity, energy security and economic development in Central and Eastern Europe.
The 2023 AmCham US - RO Economic Forum, a satellite event of the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) Business Forum in Bucharest, deep dived into the transformative impact of innovation on economies and societies, calling for the acceleration and adoption of innovation as a vector for prosperity and sustainable development, and gathered high-level government officials from Romania and the US and leaders of major companies in the Three Seas region.
