Romania will introduce strict rules for recruitment agencies, and the employment of foreign workers will be aligned with the real needs of the economy, Minister of Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Irineu Darau said in a post published on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

"We will have strict rules for recruitment agencies to eliminate intermediaries who exploit people or circumvent the law. This way, workers will be protected through clear information obligations, so that everyone knows from the outset where they are going, what salary they will receive and under what conditions they will work. At the same time, the employment of foreigners will be aligned with the real needs of the economy and, very importantly, we will retain in Romania foreigners who have studied here and who can start working without unnecessary procedures and without bureaucracy," the minister wrote.

He said that he had approved a draft Emergency Ordinance, drawn up by the Ministry of Labour together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which simplifies and organises the entire system "so that the state knows exactly who is coming, where they work and under what conditions."

"It is an issue I have consistently pursued since my first term as a senator, as a member of the Labour Committee, because the problems in this system have been known for years. We are introducing the WorkinRomania.gov.ro platform, where all procedures will be managed, so that employers have a faster and clearer process," Irineu Darau added.

The Minister of Economy added that the draft "is a necessary change, with a clear objective: a fair and controlled system in which the rules are respected by all; this is the basis of a functional economy."

Irineu Darau believes that the process by which foreign workers arrive and work in Romania is currently complicated and difficult to monitor.

"Romania needs workforce, but not with an opaque system vulnerable to abuse. The Government will change this!." the minister also said.
