The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, stated on Tuesday that the issue of combating human trafficking must be expanded in schools from the information and awareness stage through various projects to the inclusion of the topic in the curriculum, through specifically dedicated learning units.

"It is a strategy in which many authorities are involved. (...) There were activities focused on awareness and information elements for students and teachers, on the one hand. The second category, for students and parents, on the other hand. Then, we had actions in the area of vulnerable groups, where we know that there is a greater probability of such phenomena occurring, especially in areas where poverty is stronger. And we are trying to come up with more than just information and awareness. There are also those programs related to social scholarships, hot meals and the National Program for Reducing School Dropout, which all try to support school in those disadvantaged areas. And at the same time, the fourth point is related to how we prepare our teachers to raise awareness of this problem and create a culture in school that opposes these problems", said David, on Tuesday, at Parliament, after the meeting of the joint special committee of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies for combating human trafficking.

The minister referred to "strengthening the awareness component".

"I would like something more, namely the curriculum area, to contain learning units specifically dedicated to these issues. That is, to strengthen the awareness component, not to do it only through projects that you plan more or less stably. Once you have put this theme in the curriculum, it remains. And don't forget that the course I'm talking about - 'Counseling and guidance' - is in the common core", the minister added.
