Education trade union leader: Gov't hasn't abandoned anything promised, no talk of strike

The Government has not abandoned anything already regulated and promised, and at the moment there is no talk of a strike, said Simion Hancescu, president of the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI), after talks with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, told Agerpres.

"Following the discussions, the idea emerged that absolutely nothing has been abandoned from what was regulated and promised. (...) We are waiting for official invitations from the Ministry of Labour in order to solve the problems related to the pay scale. We have also drawn the Prime Minister's attention to the fact that we have a problem in the system. As the press has found out, there are complaints from directors who have lower salaries than those of executives and there are already directors who have resigned.(...) It has been confirmed that this is known and that a solution will be sought, because it is indeed abnormal that someone in a management position has a lower salary than someone in an executive position," said Hancescu.

The FSLI leader added that, as far as management salaries are concerned, one of the options is that the director could have a salary 10% higher than the employee in the same institution who has the maximum level on the pay scale.

Marius Nistor, president of the Spiru Haret Federation of Education Trade Unions, said that the Executive must find solutions for the payment of those who will be involved in projects in pre-university education, with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

"I have raised an issue that you know quite well - the payment of principals and staff who will be engaged in these projects. I have long said that, according to the content of the acts that formed the basis of the negotiation of the PNRR, the directors and accountants involved in the management of the projects in question are not paid. The Government will have to find a solution for the payment of our colleagues who will be involved," Nistor said.

At the end of August, some 2,500 directors and deputy directors of education units signed an open letter to the Government asking for urgent measures to rectify the salary scale.

Representatives of the education unions had a meeting with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu at the Government headquarters on Monday.
