The president of the Romanian Academy, Aurel Pop, attending the inauguration of the Educational Center for Permaculture and Healthy Food on the former Marghiloman estate in Buzau, stated that a healthy society is a conservative one insofar as it preserves its past, and that lessons from the Middle Ages remain valuable today.
Buzau City Hall is organizing, on March 25 - 26, through the "Alexandru Marghiloman" Cultural and Educational Center, the project "Saving the Heritage, Saving the Identity". As part of the program, the Educational Center for Permaculture and Healthy Food was inaugurated on Wednesday in the Gardener's House, a rehabilitated building in Marghiloman Park.
Buzau mayor Constantin Toma noted that saving heritage also means restoring the Gardener's House and reviving the former estate not only through renovation but also by creating the new educational center. He explained that permaculture, a concept dating back to 1978, focuses on caring for the earth at a time when soil is increasingly polluted by chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. The center aims to teach children and the community how to cultivate plants and raise animals in ways that support healthy food production. He added that the center is the third park included in this educational circuit and is unique in Romania.
The event was attended by the president of the Romanian Academy, Aurel Pop, who praised the local administration's initiative to highlight the former Marghiloman estate.
"A healthy society is a conservative society insofar as it preserves the past, insofar as it defends these values, and I am absolutely convinced that in the life of the city of Buzau, this estate, which has become an extraordinary park, and not just any kind, but a healthy one, based on a healthy economy, on an almost natural economy, as I like to say, will demonstrate that these teachings from the past, even from the Middle Ages, are worth capitalizing on," the president of the Romanian Academy conveyed.
Irina Vladuca Marghiloman, the last descendant of statesman Alexandru Marghiloman, said she was honored by the event and by the initiative of Buzau City Hall, expressing gratitude on behalf of her family.
The inauguration was followed by a scientific communications session held in partnership with the Romanian Academy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, and later by a book launch at Vila Albatros.
