Romania will have, for the first time, a strategy dedicated exclusively to the quality of medical care and patient safety, a unitary framework for the entire health system, announced Minister Alexandru Rogobete on Wednesday.
"The strategy was developed by working together, at the same table, with ANMCS, the World Bank, the World Health Organization, professional associations, health professionals, unions and patient representatives. We are moving from fragmented approaches to a coherent system, in which quality is constantly monitored, measured and corrected, in every hospital and in every medical service," Rogobete wrote on Facebook.
According to the minister, the National Strategy for Medical Care Quality and Patient Safety 2026 - 2032 emphasizes how care is provided, how safe it is and what results it produces.
The strategy is built on three directions: increasing the quality of care and patient safety at all levels, by strengthening accountability, digital infrastructure and data-based decisions; reducing mortality, avoidable hospitalizations and inequalities, by standardizing clinical practice, strengthening primary medicine and controlling infections and antimicrobial resistance; strengthening trust in the health system, through real patient involvement, transparency and measuring their experience.
"For the first time, these directions are supported by clear indicators, responsible institutions and implementation deadlines, so that progress can be concretely tracked. (...) The strategy brings together all levels of the system, from public policies and financing to the concrete way in which hospitals work. It is a document that reflects the reality in the system and the direct experience of those who support it every day. I wanted a simple, applicable and assumed strategy. A document that can be used every day in the health system," emphasized Minister Rogobete.
