Education Minister Daniel David on Tuesday said that there will "inevitably" be reshuffling as the Ministry of Education will take over the former Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation, adding that the reshuffling does not mean layoffs, but the assurance that the functions will not be duplicated.

"It means that you have to combine departments from two ministries and you have to avoid duplications," the minister told a news briefing after a government meeting.

At the same time, he said that the Ministry of Education "must not make any reduction imposed by someone through an order" and is currently at the organisation stage.

"There will also be reshufflings by the fact that the Ministry of Education must take over the former Ministry of Research. Thus, for me it is very important not to have departments, directions, people who duplicate, who do the same thing. So, yes, there will be such reshufflings," the minister said, adding that reshuffling does not mean that you kick people out.

"It simply means that you have to combine departments from two ministries and what you have to do is avoid duplication. This does not mean that people cannot take on other activities, but you cannot have people who do exactly the same thing coming from two different ministries in a new ministry."

David added that the ministry will make "the changes that it has to make in order to operate efficiently" and "in principle" the number of employees will remain the same.

"The ministry does not yet have a new organisation chart," said David.
