Elcen submitted on Tuesday in the MySMIS system the funding request for the project "Implementation of a high-efficiency cogeneration unit within CTE Bucharest South," in order to obtain non-refundable financing from the Modernisation Fund, the company announced.

Elcen representatives referred to Key Programme 5, High Efficiency Cogeneration and Modernisation of Heating Networks.

According to the same source, the investment has a nominal power of about 275 MWe and 214 MWt.

"The initial steps aimed for the project from CET Bucharest Sud to be submitted for financing through a separate application, in the form of an individual project and not within a call for projects, taking into account the fact that the nominal power of the new unit, established by the initial feasibility study was approximately 600 MWe," the press release informs.

Following an in-depth analysis, related to the current conditions on the thermal and electrical energy market, as well as to the new European and national energy and climate targets, an optimal technical solution for equipping the new energy source, of approximately 275 MWe, resulted.

Among the main objectives pursued through the implementation of the proposed facility is the efficiency of the plant's operation. "The new high-efficiency cogeneration plant will ensure global primary energy savings compared to the separate production of thermal energy and electricity," the press release states.

Other objectives consist in the installation of a new high-efficiency, flexible cogeneration capacity operating with natural gas and being prepared to operate using a quantity of hydrogen (hydrogen ready), the provision of thermal energy to the consumers related to CTE Bucharest Sud in conditions of safety and continuity, throughout the year, reducing production costs at the plant level, reducing the annual amount of greenhouse gas emissions, complying with the environmental protection regulations in force.

Elcen also submitted On May 30 two financing applications for two other new power plant projects in order to obtain non-refundable financing from the Modernization Fund, Key Program 5: High Efficiency Cogeneration and Modernization of Heating Networks.
