Romania will have a trade balance deficit of 3.47 billion euros on agri-food products at the end of the year, although it annually receives approximately 700,000 single requests for payment per area, to grant direct payments in the amount of approximately 2.1 billion euros, which indicates structural deficiencies in the agricultural sector, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Emil Dumitru said on Monday, inform Agerpres.
"I have to refer to some statistical data that show us some structural deficiencies in Romanian agriculture. Practically, Romania annually receives approximately 700,000 unique requests for payment per area, to pay direct payments in the amount of approximately 2.1 billion euros. And yet, at the end of the year, when we look at Romania's trade balance, we find that we have a trade balance deficit of 3.47 billion euros on agri-food products. Looking deeper into that picture, I find that only 86,000 companies are tax registered, the rest are individuals. Practically, we have a two-speed agriculture, if not three, and we will have to focus on making some sustainable fiscal policies to give farmers the chance, on the one hand, to have the vocation to access the Pillar 2 of the EAFRD on investment projects and yes, why not, to be a fair competition in the Romanian agri-food market", Dumitru told the launch event of the new edition of the "White Paper on Agriculture in Romania".
IMM Romania launched, on Monday, the "White Paper on Agriculture", the 2nd edition, the purpose of the work being to evaluate the current state of agriculture and identify the main challenges and opportunities for the coming years.
