The draft Emergency Ordinance for the establishment of the Cybersecurity Incident Response Centre in Energy (CRISCE) is currently undergoing interministerial approval and could serve as an example for other ministries and sectors, announced Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja, in a message sent to participants at the Cybersecurity in Energy Forum on Wednesday, informs Agerpres.

He underscored that the cybersecurity legislation, initiated during his tenure as Digitalisation minister, is modern and among the best in the European Union, with the energy sector playing a central role within it.

The draft Emergency Ordinance for setting up and putting into operation the Cybersecurity Incident Response Centre in Energy (CRISCE), a measure required by the NIS2 Directive, was opened for public consultation in October.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the costs for implementing and operating CRISCE will be fully covered by revenues from the Modernisation Fund, without affecting the state budget.

The major benefits of establishing CRISCE for Romania are: protecting critical energy infrastructures against complex cyberattacks, such as ransomware, attacks on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, or advanced phishing attempts; creating a sector-specific operational centre dedicated to cybersecurity, which will allow for quick and efficient responses to attacks; ensuring coordinated and integrated cybersecurity in the energy sector, with continuous monitoring and proactive incident prevention mechanisms; and increasing the resilience and response capacity of energy companies in Romania.

Distributie Energie Electrica Romania (DEER) is organising, November 13-14, in Cluj-Napoca, the second edition of the Cybersecurity in Energy Forum, which aims to bring together national authorities, experts from the energy and IT sectors, as well as representatives from universities and the cybersecurity industry.

Among the main topics of the forum are addressing cyber threats to critical infrastructures, the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors, advanced technological solutions for preventing attacks, and the development of strategic partnerships at both national and international levels.
