The National Orchestra of France returns, Friday, on the stage of the Palace Hall, this time with maestro Cristian Macelaru, the artistic director of the "George Enescu" International Festival and Competition, at the lectern, informs the event website.
The soloist of the evening will be pianist Rudolf Buchbinder.
The programme will include: Romanian Rhapsody No. 2 in D major op. 11 by George Enescu, Concerto in F for piano and orchestra by George Gershwin, Piano Trio in A minor M. 67 (orchestration by Yan Pascal Tortelier) and Waltz M. 72 by Maurice Ravel.
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO), conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev, will perform, at the Romanian Athenaeum. On percussion - Colin Currie.
On the programme: Selections from "The Creatures of Prometheus op. 43" by Ludwig van Beethoven, Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra, "Come, Come Emmanuel" by James MacMillan and Symphony No. 5 in C minor op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven.
"The Last Piece" - an immersive syncretic concert - can also be seen on Friday, at MINA - Museum of Immersive New Art.
The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, conducted by Tonu Kaljuste, will perform on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum. The soloist will be cellist Anja Lechner.
The programme includes: "Praise the Lord, all ye nations", BWV 230 by Johann Sebastian Bach, "Summa" by Arvo Part, "Song of the Forest" by George Enescu, "Iris" by Evelin Seppar, "Da pacem Domine" by Arvo Part, "Dopo la vittoria" by Arvo Part, "Svyati for solo cello and choir" by John Tavener, "Bogoroditse Devo" from Vespers op. 37 no. 6 by Sergei Rachmaninov and "Kontakion, Ikos and Prayer after the Canon" from the "Canon of Repentance" by Arvo Part.
The 27th edition of the "George Enescu" International Festival takes place in Bucharest and throughout the country until September 21. This year, the event's theme is anniversaries - "Celebrations" -, in the context of the 70th anniversary of the great composer's death.
