Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu will participate on Tuesday in the Environment Council meeting in Luxembourg, where she will discuss the creation of the European Water Resilience Fund.

"On my way to Luxembourg - where the Environment Council meeting is set to take place on October 21, attended by member states' environment ministers. An important topic that I will raise from Romania's perspective: the creation of the European Water Resilience Fund - which is key for financing water infrastructure and the digital monitoring of water quality," Diana Buzoianu wrote on Facebook on Monday.

According to the European Commission, EU environment ministers are to adopt Council conclusions on the preparations for the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) which will take place in Belem, Brazil, November 10 to 21. The conclusions will serve as the EU's general negotiating position at COP30.

The ministers will also look to approve conclusions on the European Water Resilience Strategy, which was adopted by the European Commission in June 2025 and is intended to address water scarcity and increase water efficiency by restoring the water cycle, promoting a competitive and circular water-smart economy and ensuring access to safe and affordable water.

At the same time, the environment ministers will exchange views on the European Ocean Pact, an initiative launched by the European Commission to strengthen the EU's ocean policy in six priority areas, from restoring marine health and boosting the blue economy to supporting coastal communities and strengthening maritime security.
