The prices of some food products, especially bread, bakery products, dairy products and cold cuts, could increase by up to 8-10% by the end of the year, amid high energy and transport costs, said Feliciu Paraschiv, vice president of the National Association of Small and Medium-Sized Traders in Romania (ANCMMR) on Friday.
"In the coming period, we expect to have higher increases in products that have a higher energy component. For example, bread and bakery products have high energy costs because they are baked in electric or gas ovens, are transported and have a large volume and a low price, which makes the transport factor per unit high. Products will become more expensive differently. Bread and bakery products, probably by the end of the year, will have an 8% increase. We will also have the same in the dairy industry, for salamis, also somewhere up to 8%, maybe 10%," mentioned Feliciu Paraschiv, at the debate "What we learn from crises. The economy is moving from tariff disorder to energy disorder", organized by CLCC - Coalition for Freedom of Trade and Communication.
He expressed hope that inflation would moderate in the second half of the year.
"We know that the BNR had targets of 4-6%, which I don't think we will reach, but a decrease in inflation could lead to price stabilization and a slight recovery. A rapid recovery is not to be expected, because it will be a rather long and gradual process of adjustment and balancing," Paraschiv added.
In his opinion, the current context can also determine positive adjustments in the economy.
"The biggest growth and star of the Romanian economy is poultry meat. Exports increased in 2025 by 50% in volume and 77% in value. We, as a country, could become a pole for poultry meat, as Poland is for apples in Europe, if we know how to manage the situation very well. I believe that, slowly, slowly, we will recover or adapt and recalculate our operations and expenses to the level of the new situation," the ANCMMR vice president also said.
