Minister of Public Finance Anca Dragu said on Wednesday that the ministry has decided to increase the cap for guarantees for 2016 for the "First Home" programme with 500 million lei, because the number of funding requests doubled in the first four months of this year.
"The reason for which we have made this additional allocation has been exactly the very high number of requests that banks registered in the first four months, and also in the context of this new legislative framework, the debt discharge respectively. What we have noticed is that in the first four months we had double requests compared to 2015 and 2014. As such we expect that in a period of several months this demand will decrease, we have no reason to believe that the demand will remain double by the year's end," explained the minister in a press conference at Victoria Palace.
In this context, Dragu said that the Government would consider whether the fund would be supplemented, stating that new allocations do not depend on the budgetary rectification. "This allocation does not take into account the budgetary rectification. Allocations under this guarantee cap may occur any time. (...) To the extent that these amounts will be allocated and used, we will do an analysis and we will come up with a new proposal," added the finance minister.
