Military firemen have intervened over the past 24 hours in 17 counties affected by heavy rain and adverse weather, and 30 victims were reported nationwide.

"Because of strong gusts of wind and lighting, as many as 30 victims were reported nationwide. Moreover, 687 trees have fallen on roads, cars, homes and electricity pylons, with 24 roofs and 72 cars having sustained damage," reads a statement released by the Inspectorate General for Emergencies (IGSU) on Wednesday.

Furthermore, floods in 18 homes, six yards and three basements were recorded, and the firemen intervened to evacuate water from the households.

"Rain showers and mud on roads have made traffic hard on National Road 1, between Busteni and Azuga and on National Road 7C - Transfagarasan, and specialist teams intervened to fix the problem and clear the roads," the statement reads.

Bad weather effects were reported in 91 settlements of 17 counties: Alba, Arges, Bistrita-Nasaud, Braila, Cluj, Calarasi, Caras-Severin, Dambovita, Galati, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Ialomita, Maramures, Mures, Prahova, Salaj, Vaslui, and in Bucharest City.

No situations requiring action by military firemen were recorded on Wednesday morning.

Firemen recommend that, during wind gusts and hail, the population take shelter in their homes or other safe places. To contain possible damage incurred by strong wind, cars should be parked at a safe distance from trees and pylons.
