ForMin Odobescu pays official visit to Berlin, condemns Russian attacks on Ukrainian Danube ports

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, paid an official visit to Berlin on Monday, where she had meetings with her German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, and the European Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor, Undine Ruge, during which she condemned once again the attacks of the Russian Federation against the population and civil infrastructure, including the Ukrainian ports on the Danube, near the border with our country, told Agerpres.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian foreign minister underscored, during the talks with her German counterpart, the importance of further developing the already solid economic relationship existing between the two countries, and also the need of boosting joint economic projects and capitalize on the German investment potential in important areas of the Romanian economy: infrastructure, energy, agriculture and food industry, circular economy, digitization, defence industry.

The discussions also highlighted the need for the two countries to coordinate their positions on topical issues on the European and international agenda, considering the multiple crises generated by Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, the MAE also says.

Minister Odobescu presented, during the meetings with the high-ranked German officials, the efforts of the Romanian side to facilitate Ukrainian grain exports, especially to the most vulnerable regions of the globe.

Regarding the attacks during the night of September 3 to 4, Luminita Odobescu stated that the means used by the Russian Federation did not generate direct military threats to the national territory or the territorial waters of Romania.

She informed that the Ministry of National Defence has taken enhanced vigilance measures on land, at sea and in the national airspace, and contributes to strengthening the defence and deterrence posture on the Eastern Flank of NATO, according to national and allied plans.

At the same time, the Romanian minister pleaded for the continuation of consistent European support to the Republic of Moldova, in order to strengthen its resilience in the face of current threats, including through the Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova, an initiative launched by Romania, Germany and France.

Another topic on the agenda of the talks was Romania's accession to the Schengen area, the same press release informs.

Also, Luminita Odobescu mentioned the current status of the Romanian side's efforts in relation to this topic, while the head of the German diplomacy and the European Policy Advisor to the Federal Chancellor reiterated Germany's firm support for the achievement of this major objective of Romania.
