Romanian tennis players Gabriela Ruse and Anca Todoni managed to reach the main singles draw of the Wimbledon grass tournament, the third Grand Slam of the year, on Thursday.
Ruse (26 years old, no. 152 WTA) defeated the Croatian Lea Boskovic (24 years old, no. 199 WTA), 6-2, 6-2, in the last round of the qualifiers, in just 67 minutes.
For Ruse this will be the fourth time she is present on the main draw at Wimbledon, without ever getting past the first round.
Todoni (19 years old, no. 141 WTA) defeated Spain's Nuria Parrizas-Diaz (32 years old, no. 166 WTA) 6-2, 6-4, after one hour and 15 minutes, and will be present for the first time on the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.
The two Romanians each secured 60,000 pounds and 50 WTA points.
Sorana Cirstea, Ana Bogdan, Jaqueline Cristian and Irina Begu entered the women's main draw directly.
