German cyclist Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe) won this year's edition of the Cycling Tour of Sibiu, on Tuesday, after the four stages of the race.
Lipowitz was followed in the final rankings by Norwegian Andreas Leknessund (Uno-X Mobility), at 20 seconds, and by New Zealander George Bennett (Israel - Premier Tech), at 38 seconds.
Last year's winner, Britain's Mark Donovan (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), finished the race in tenth place.
The best ranked Romanian was Andrei Carbunarea (national team), in 38th place, 15 min 23 sec behind the winner.
The famous British cyclist Chris Froome (Israel - Premier Tech), who has won all three major races (Tour of France, Tour of Italy, Tour of Spain), finished in 103rd place (out of 127 cyclists), 42 min 18 sec from first place.
The last stage, the fourth, held on the route Sibiu - Tarnaveni - Sibiu (192.9 km), was won in a sprint by the Belgian Milan Menten (Lotto Dstny), but he was penalized for an irregular sprint, so the victory went to the Italian Giacomo Nizzolo (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), in 4 h 17 min 26 sec, followed by Canadian Riley Pickrell (Israel - Premier Tech) and Irishman Finn Crockett (Volkerwessels Cycling Team). Lipowitz ranked 21st, at the same time as the winner, and Ioan Dobrin (Mentorise Mlmsuperstars) was the fastest Romanian, arriving 24th.
Lotto Dstny won the team race, followed by Israel - Premier Tech and Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe, while the Romanian national team ranked 13th.
Lipowitz was also first in the classification of climbers, the Dutch Joren Bloem (Tdt-Unibet) was first in the points classification, and the Dutch Sam Gademan (Volkerwessels Cycling Team) was first in the points hierarchy. American Matthew Riccitello (Israel - Premier Tech) finished in first place in the Under-23 cyclists classification.
Lipowitz is the first German to win the Tour of Sibiu, a race that has no Romanian champion in its records. Among the winners are Italians Davide Rebellin (2013), Giovanni Aleotti (2021, 2022), Colombians Egan Bernal (2017), Ivan Sosa (2018), etc.
