The Government decided on Friday to continue granting holiday vouchers worth 1,450 lei to all public sector employee in 2019 and 2020.
"The Government has decided today that holiday vouchers amounting to 1,450 lei will be granted for the next two years, namely 2019 and 2020. This year, approximately 1.2 million Romanians in the public sector could use these vouchers exclusively at tourist accommodation establishments in Romania and for that reason the Government has decided to grant these vouchers in the next two years as well, given the number of tourists in Romania that has grown significantly, " governmental spokesman Nelu Barbu said after a government meeting.
He explained that in September, the number of Romanian tourists who overnighted at a certified establishment increased by 14 percent compared with the same period last year. "Another effect of this measure was an increase in requests for permits for accommodation establishments in Romania, on average, 10 percent more than in the same period last year," said Barbu.
