Almost 400 spectators attended in Sascut, Bacau county, the photo exhibition put together by AGERPRES called 'Romania: Evolution,' the AGERPRES documentary called 'Greater Union - Romania at 100,' as well as the screening of 'Veronica' (on 21 October, at 11:00hrs) and 'Uncle Martin, the Billionare' ('Nea Marin Miliardar), events that were organised within the Romanian Film Centennial Caravan.

The events that took place at the end of last week in the Lux Salon of Sascut were presented by AGERPRES Romanian National News Agency Director General Alexandru Giboi, actress Ileana Popovici and project director Andrei Giurgia.

"It is a great honor and a privilege for us to have come here, at you home. This itinerant project started in February in Iasi. Since then, we have reached about 50 cities and localities and we are glad that Sascut is now on this map of the Centennial of the Romanian Film. What is important to say is that these films you've seen have been selected by critics of the Romanian cinematography. I refer here to Irina Margareta Nistor, director Cristian Mungiu, historian and critic Bujor Ripeanu, and, whenever possible, we are accompanied by important names of the Romanian cinematography and culture," Andrei Giurgia stated at the event in Sascut.

Actress Ileana Popovici, the one who created the soundtrack for many of the Romanian films, wanted to mention the fact that Elisabeth Bostan, the director of 'Veronica', created the most beautiful films for children, adding that it was a privilege to contribute to the film's soundtrack. She also stressed the importance of watching movies on a big screen, mentioning that 'Uncle Martin, the Billionare' brings together the biggest film and theater actors of Romania, being the most watched Romanian film.

"We chose Sascut because it is important, from my point of view, to also bring this kind of event related to the Greater Union Centenary into smaller communities, not just where everyone would expect, in big cities or municipalities, where this kind of events take place. This is a unique moment, indeed. I believe small communities should also benefit from such cultural events, especially this year, a very important [year] for us as Romanians. We are in the Centennial Year. The Centennial Year marks 100 years since the Greater Union of Romania, 100 years of modernisation of Romania, with ups and downs, as in any such process. But, however, 100 years in which we developed compared to how we were in 1918, and 1918 is basically the moment that started to define us as a nation," AGERPRES Director General Alexandru Giboi mentioned.

The event in Sascut, which gathered almost 400 viewers and was supported by the commune city hall, is part of the project organised by the Artis Association, that includes the screening of 100 films in 100 cities and localities of Romania and the Republic of moldova.

Initiated by ARTIS and the MIA Community Association, organized by Iasi City Hall and Iasi Athenaeum, with AGERPRES Romanian National News Agency as co-organizer, the Romanian Film Centennial was launched this year, on February 3, in Iasi, the city that recorded important moments within the Greater Union of Romania.
