Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday that Romania also needs an administrative reform, starting with localities with up to 1,500-2,000 inhabitants, when asked when the number of schools with toilets in the yard will reach zero.

"We hope to finalise it. I think an administrative reform is also needed in Romania, if you want a personal opinion, and it should start with localities that have up to 1,500-2,000 inhabitants. This signal must be given, maybe not from these elections (2024 local election, ed. n.), to future elections, but in Romania an administrative reform is also needed. We must do it and assume it," Ciolacu said, agerpres reports.

Asked what he will do to ensure that next year education will receive more money from the budget, to EU standards, the prime minister said: "First of all, let me make sure that there is no waste. Come with me to this college and when you want me to have free time too, we go to a college in Belgium. It's the same standard, the children get food, they have workshops, the classes are impeccable. Romania is a member of the EU and we've almost reached the standards... really in Bucharest, in the big cities. That's why, I repeat, we also need an administrative reform. (...) I prefer to invest in drivers, in minibuses and gather children in areas where quality education is provided at a certain level. All children must have the same chance," the premier stressed, at the Anghel Saligny Technical College in Bucharest on Monday.
