Interim Minister of Foreign Affairs Emil Hurezeanu delivered a message on Sunday on the occasion of the Day of Romanians Everywhere, emphasising that this moment serves as a reminder of the fundamental values we believe in and that unite us, Agerpres reports.
"The Day of Romanians Everywhere represents a symbolic moment of celebration for those living outside Romania's borders, whether they belong to the historical communities near our borders or to the Romanian diaspora. This day reminds us of the fundamental values we believe in and that unite us, of our shared linguistic, spiritual and cultural heritage, and of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and for a prosperous and developed society.
Today, we reflect on the historical path (at times winding) and the circumstances (often difficult) that have distanced us from one another. At the same time, we acknowledge the growth of a national diaspora undergoing historic expansion across many parts of the world. This diaspora is finding its distinct voice within the societies where it resides, while continuing to stay connected and to participate actively and meaningfully in the life and development of Romanian society. The international context and technology make distances increasingly relative. Never before has the diaspora, wherever it may be, been closer to the country," Hurezeanu said in his message, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also said that the diaspora is an integral part of the evolution of Romania's international reputation.
"With the path opened by Romania's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, the strengthening of the profile of Romanians abroad is developing in tandem with our society's progress toward prosperity and security. The diaspora contributes significantly to this progress," the minister underscored.
Emil Hurezeanu noted that through Romania's diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to promote and defend the rights of Romanian citizens living abroad, ensuring consular services, protection, and assistance, both in routine circumstances and emergencies, while working to "strengthen ties with the homeland and promote Romanian identity values and our historical and cultural heritage."
"In a global context marked by numerous security challenges and instability, together we will always be stronger and better prepared to face threats, united in our shared desire to build a better future for all of us. Happy Day to all Romanians, wherever they may be!," the minister concluded.
