IntMin Carmen Dan meets members of the European Parliament in Strasnbourg

Minister of Interior Carmen Dan has a series of bilateral meetings in Strasbourg with members of the European Parliament discussing priorities of the Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union in the domestic affairs field.

The meeting took place in the context of the working meeting in Strasbourg of a delegation led by PM Viorica Dancila for presenting the priorities of the Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union in the plenary sitting of the European Parliament.

Minister Carmen Dan discussed with the chair of the Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Domestic Affairs (LIBE) in the European Parliament and the chair of the Conference of Committee Chairs, reads a release of the Ministry of Interior (MAI) sent to AGERPRES.

During her meeting with the chair of the LIBE Committee, Claude Moraes, the Romanian high official reiterated the commitment of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU to contribute to the advance of the most important legislative files in the domestic affairs field having citizens' safety at their core and asked for the support of the members of the LIBE Committee in making significant progress within the trialogues.

Moreover, the Romanian Minister mentioned the intense efforts at technical level made in the file regarding the ensuring of the inter-operability of the intelligence systems at EU level, in managing borders, the migration phenomenon and the security issues.

"In terms of external borders security, Minister Carmen Dan reckoned that one of the priorities of the Romanian presidency of the Council of the EU is strengthening the Frontex mandate. The Romanian official mentioned that the Romanian presidency of the Council of the EU is going to make efforts to reach an agreement at the level of the Council to start the trialogues with the European Parliament as soon as possible. At the same time, she underscored the intention to reach an inter-institutional agreement before the ending of this legislature, in what concerns the Frontex Agency, and also regarding the modification of the Schengen Borders Code, in respect to the controls at the internal borders," mentioned the same source.

During the meeting with Cecilia Wikstrom, the chair of the Conference of Committee Chairs and rapporteur of the European Parliament for the reform of the Dublin system, the Romanian Minister of Interior insisted on the initiatives in the asylum field.

"The Romanian presidency of the Council of the EU will continue the discussions meant for the identification of solutions to reflect the necessary balance between responsibility and solidarity, in making this the European asylum system more efficient," specifies the same source.

The Romanian delegation was made of PM Viorica Dancila, Carmen Dan - Minister of Interior, Rovana Plumb - Minister of European Funds, Tedoro Melescanu - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eugen Teodorovici - Minister of Public Finances, Marius-Constantin Budai - Minister of Labour and George Ciamba - Minister-delegate for European Affairs.
