Deputy Prime Minister Catalin Predoiu, Minister of Internal Affairs, paid his final respects on Thursday to coach Mircea Lucescu.

Catalin Predoiu went to the catafalque at the National Arena and observed a moment of silence. He then offered his condolences to the coach's son, Razvan Lucescu, and to Mircea Lucescu's granddaughter, both present at the National Arena.

'We express our respect for the man, the consummate professional and patriot Mircea Lucescu, as well as our deep regret at his premature passing,' Catalin Predoiu said on leaving the National Arena, after also laying a wreath at the catafalque.

He stressed that 'the great Mircea Lucescu revolutionised Romanian football and the profession of football coach and became a national figure recognised throughout the world'.

'As a mark of respect for these remarkable contributions that the great Mircea Lucescu made to Romanian football, to our country and to world football, we have decided to initiate the legal procedures to name the future stadium of Dinamo Club - the Mircea Lucescu Dinamo Stadium. May God rest the great Mircea Lucescu in peace and tranquillity,' the interior minister said.

Earlier, at the opening of the government meeting, members of the Executive observed a moment of silence in memory of Mircea Lucescu.

During the day on Thursday, all those who wish may pay their final respects to the great Romanian coach.
