The Ministry of Health, in partnership with ALIA - Association for the Fight Against Stroke - has launched a national campaign to raise awareness over cerebrovascular accidents, or strokes, designed especially for children and their families, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete announced on Thursday.
"Through 'FAST Heroes', we aim to explain to the little ones, in an accessible and friendly way, how they can recognise the signs of a stroke and how important it is to act quickly. Why is it important to talk about stroke? Because it represents a major medical emergency. In Romania, over 60,000 people suffer a stroke annually, and the country is still among the European states with the highest mortality rates associated with this condition," the minister said in a social media post.
He added that quickly identifying symptoms can save lives: asymmetrical face, weakness in one arm, slurred speech - followed by immediate action and calling 112.
"Why do we start with the little ones? Because a healthy society is built through early medical education. Informed children become responsible adults and can contribute decisively to critical situations in the family or community," Rogobete added.
In his opinion, prevention and health education must remain priorities.
"Through this partnership, we want to bring information closer to people and contribute to saving lives."
