Romania has got a national research strategy, said President Klaus Iohannis on Monday evening in a meeting with the media, 'but it needs to adjust this strategy to certain situations' so that the country's existing research facilities could be valorized.
The head of state gave the example of the Oncogen Centre of Timisoara where medicine research is done, but authorities running this centre are not yet cleared who's dealing with what, who's managing what in such a research project."

"It is vital to attune the situation as soon as possible, otherwise we risk to lose them (the centres - author's note). Once completed, an investment if not maintained or efficiently exploited is fading away. This adjustment must be done by a smart government capable to understand that the country could not be sliced into small pieces, each of it administered by a ministry; we have to understand that certain matters, bureaucratic most of the times, are managed jointly, that they should be cancelled in the inter-ministry area or among several entities. This is what we are talking about when saying we want to eliminate bureaucracy and make procedures simpler," said Iohannis.
The Oncogen gene and cell cancer therapy centre with the Timisoara County Hospital was opened a year ago. It is the only centre of its kind in the country and European-level research could be performed with its excellent, modern equipment.AGERPRES
