Romanian tennis player Irina Begu advanced to the second round of the Palermo Ladies Open featuring 232,244 euros in prize money, after outclassing Spaniard Marina Bassols Ribera 6-0, 6-0.
33-year-old Begu (WTA's 142nd) clinched the victory in just 58 minutes, thus getting a 2-0 lead over Bassols in their head-to-head matches (the first in 2022, also in Palermo).
In the second round, Begu will face the winner of the match between Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, No. 5 seed, and Italian Martina Trevisan.
Seed No. 7 Jaqueline Cristian is also on the singles board of the Sicily tournament, and is to play in the first round Argentinian Julia Riera.
