Justice Minister Tudorel Toader said on Tuesday that he discussed with the Prosecutor General and the heads of the National Anticorruption Directorate and of the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism what it takes to finalize the bill on the European Public Prosecutor's Office so as to further table it to the Government and then refer it to Parliament to be debated in a fast-track procedure.
"We have previously discussed that we need to put out the final form of the bill on the European Public Prosecutor's Office/the European Prosecutor. You know perfectly well that Romania has voted in the Justice and Home Affairs Council for enhanced cooperation for this institution called the European Public Prosecutor's Office. Romania, and actually each cooperating member state, must designate a European Prosecutor [to the College]. We therefore have to finalize this piece of legislation and agreed to move toward completing the bill on rendering operational the European Public Public Prosecutor's Office, to be able to submit it to a transparent decision-making process, pass it through the Government, and then send it to Parliament with the request for approval in a fast track procedure," Toader said.
