The first application for vouchers for victims of sexual crimes has been approved in court, Justice Minister Alina Gorghiu said on Thursday.
"Crime victims are not alone and they need to know that! As a woman, as a mother, I am glad that the first application for vouchers for victims of sexual offenses has been approved! These are serious offenses to which the victim has been subjected: sexual assault, rape and sexual corruption of minors. The court awarded an advance of 18,000 lei in financial compensation. The sum will be used to cover urgent needs: accommodation, food, transportation, medicines. It's a good thing that victims are starting to use this mechanism. The funds must reach those in need," Alina Gorghiu wrote on her Facebook page.
She brings to mind that crime victims can benefit from a maximum amount of five gross minimum wages, that is the amount of 18,500 lei, with 300 vouchers planned for 2024, and, depending on needs, their number can be increased.
"For this, it is necessary for the victim to submit an application to the court where he or she is domiciled, requesting an advance of the financial compensation in the form of a voucher to cover urgent needs," the Justice minister explained.
