The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, on Thursday conveyed a message on the occasion of Friendship Day between Romania and the United States of America, in which he voiced his conviction that "cooperation with the United States bilaterlayy and in allied context has never been more substantial" in the year Romania marked its 20th anniversary of NATO membership.
"On July 11, Friendship Day between Romania and the United States of America is marked, and this year marks 27 years since the launch of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States, which has become one of the strategic landmarks of Romania's foreign policy, along with NATO and the European Union membership," Klaus Iohannis said in his message.
The Strategic Partnership with the USA, established on the occasion of the visit of US President Bill Clinton to Bucharest, on July 11, 1997, acquired new values and dimensions over time, the head of state also specifies in the message, appreciating that "beyond the traditional cooperation in terms of security, respectively political and military, the Strategic Partnership developed through essential pillars such as the economic, cultural or educational ones".
"This year we have also marked the 20th anniversary of Romania's NATO membership, and cooperation with the United States bilaterally and in an allied context has never been more substantial. The United States constantly appreciates the important role that Romania plays in the promotion of Euro-Atlantic security, as well as the role of a responsible and reliable Ally on NATO's Eastern Flank," Klaus Iohannis also mentioned.
He also emphasized that "Romania and the United States remain committed to the defense of democratic values, which unite the two sides of the Atlantic, and I am convinced that in the future we will continue to deepen our strategic cooperation on all levels, for the benefit of our citizens".
