Masha the bear, having lived in a circus in Ukraine for almost 20 years, arrived in Romania on Monday morning and will be received on Monday at the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zarnesti, Brasov County, administered by the Millions of Friends Association (AMP).

The representatives of the Association announced that they have managed to complete the formalities for taking over the bear, which has stayed, in the last weeks, 40 kilometers from a bombed area in Ukraine.

"The documents [necessary for bringing across the border - ed. n.] Masha have just been completed, she is on Romanian soil, she is on her way to the Sanctuary. We are very excited because there were moments when we had given up hope of being able to bring her, after she was supposed to be brought on March 1 but it was postponed due to the start of the war. Masha was in an area where there have been no bombing so far, but there were some about 40 miles from the site where she was. (...) Fortunately, she is well, she is a little unsettled by the travel, by the fact that she is in a cage, but from now on she will only enjoy nature (...), together with other bears who have experienced the same traumas as her," AMP officials said.

According to them, the bear has already been on the road for 24 hours, leaving for Romania on Sunday, so "she is quite nervous, stressed", but during the breaks on the road the AMP representatives give her water and food, including her favorites - grapes, honey and bread.

AMP announced in February that it had been asked by a Ukrainian foundation to take over Masha. The bear, having been training since she was a puppy, has spent two decades of her life in a circus, living in a cage. She has been in a temporary shelter in Sambir for the past few days.

The date originally set for her takeover by the MPA was March 1, but it could not be met due to the war, Agerpres informs.
