Daniel Baluta, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) candidate for Bucharest mayor, would garner 24% of voters' preferences if local elections were held next Sunday, according to an Avangarde poll published on Wednesday.
He is followed by National Liberal Party (PNL) candidate Ciprian Ciucu with 21%, Save Romania Union (USR) candidate Catalin Drula with 20%, and independent candidate Anca Alexandrescu with 17%.
Other candidates would receive the following shares: independent Vlad Gheorghe - 5%, Ana Ciceala (SENS) - 4%, independent Virgil Alexandru Zidaru - 4%, and Liviu Negoita (PUSL) - 3%.
When asked who they believed would become the next mayor of Bucharest, regardless of personal voting preference, 40% of respondents indicated Daniel Baluta, 19% Ciprian Ciucu, 15% Catalin Drula, 12% Anca Alexandrescu, 3% Ana Ciceala, 3% Vlad Gheorghe, and 2% Virgil Alexandru Zidaru.
According to the survey, 82% of respondents were aware that the Bucharest mayoral election will take place on December 7, while 16% were not.
The poll was conducted between 2-7 November on a sample of 1,080 respondents through face-to-face interviews. The margin of error is ą3.2%, at a 95% confidence level. The sample is representative of the adult population of Bucharest. The research was self-funded.
