MEP Adrian Axinia of the Alliance for the Union of Romania (AUR) stressed that AUR representatives will not vote Ursula von der Leyen in for another term as European Commission President.
"Ursula von der Leyen is currently scrambling for votes for the European Commission's Presidency, promising, what a surprise: more Green Deal. The question is for whom? The answer is simple: for us, everyone, less the conservative group that includes AUR. Von der Leyen promised the Socialists, the EPP and the Greens that she will go ahead with the Green Deal and policies along the same lines. The PSD, PNL, UDMR and USR are voting in favor! In parallel, the EPP promises a new green transition that is more friendly to the economy. In other words, less Green Deal that would even accept internal combustion engines, among others," Adrian Axinia said as cited in an AUR release.
He reproaches Ursula von der Leyen that, in order to secure her position at the helm of the European Commission, she "promises the impossible: more Green Deal to get votes in Parliament and less Green Deal" for the industry and the citizens.
The European Parliament as resulted following the June 6 - 9 European elections meets on Tuesday in a constitutive session, the main points of the agenda being the election of the institution's leadership and voting the proposal that Ursula von der Leyen should receive a new term as President of the European Commission.
