Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu advanced on Tuesday to the last 16 of the 100,000-dollar ITF Midland tournament (Michigan) after defeating UK's Naomi Broady 7-5, 7-5.
Top seed Buzarnescu (aged 29, WTA's 43rd) claimed the victory over 27-year old Broady (ranked 118th) in one hour and 33 minutes.
In the next round Buzarnescu will play Swiss Stefanie Voegele (27, 178th WTA) who defeated her 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in their only encounter so far in the qualifiers of the 2012 Australian Open.
Irina Maria Bara (22, 175th WTA) will play in the first round against American Usue Maitane Arconada (19, WTA 254) who advanced from the qualifiers.
Buzarnescu and Bara are second seeded in the Midland event's women's doubles.
