Military firefighters intervene in 23 localities in 10 counties, to clean up after severe weather

Emergency Inspectorate (IGSU ) teams have been involved in the past 24 hours in 23 localities in 10 counties, in order to clean up after heavy rain showers and other severe weather, as the National Meteorological Administration issued 86 weather warnings of wind picking up speed, thunderstorms, flash floods and river flow increases.

The counties of Arad, Bihor, Covasna, Hunedoara, Iasi, Mehedinti, Mures, Sibiu, Satu Mare, Suceava, Vaslui were badly affected.

Firefighters removed 36 trees that the wind felled on roads and cars, pumped out water from a home, 18 yards and three basements, and remedied as soon as possible 52 roofs of buildings affected by strong wind gusts.

In the county of Sibiu, in the Poiana Neamt area, firefighters carried out a rescue operation of 12 people - eight adults and four children - left blocked on an island formed in the middle of the Avrig River. In about an hour, with the help of sliding ladders and other rescue equipment, the people were able to safely reach the river banks. They did not require medical care.

Suceava firefighters intervened in the settlements of Sesuri and Panaci to clear a forest road of fallen trees that blocked off 15 persons in four cars. Soon the situation in the area was remedied and traffic resumed safely.

Severe weather effects were also recorded in Mures County - Targu Mures, Tarnaveni, Sovata, Rastolita, Ernei and Batos - where strong wind gusts blew off the roof to a block of flats, the roofs to 39 houses and the roof to an outbuilding. Mures firefighters also intervened to move out four fallen trees, one of which had fallen on a railroad.

In the county of Iasi - Iasi, Miroslava, Scanteia, Galata and Ciurea - the army intervened to clean up after severe weather that left 11 building roofs damaged, 21 fallen trees and three households under waters.

Bad weather also affected Bihor County - Lelesti, Inand and Suncuius - where firefighters intervened with the specific equipment to pump out water from 15 courtyards, collect fallen trees and electricity poles shot down by the wind.
