From January 1, 2025, the minimum wage in Romania will be RON 4,050, while a RON 300 tax exemption in the minimum wage will stay in place, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced at the end of a meeting of the National Tripartite Committee, held on Wednesday at the Government House.
"We established today, in the National Tripartite Committee that, from January 1, 2025, the minimum wage will be RON 4,050. We are thus entering the path of the European minimum wage! We respect the European directive which shows that this value must be between 47 and 52 percent of the European minimum wage (Romania will be at 47 percent). We also agreed to maintain the tax exemption on the 300 lei of the minimum wage," Marcel Ciolacu said in a social media post.
He also welcomed the "seriousness and responsibility" of the social partners, saying that the dialogue is "the sure way to ensure a fair level of income for employees in Romania" (EUR 1 = RON 4.97).
