The Ministry of Finance (MF) borrowed 1.179 billion lei from banks on Thursday through two government securities issues, according to the National Bank of Romania (BNR) data.

Thus, the Finance Ministry raised 297 million lei through a bond issue with a residual maturity of 123 months, at an average yield of 7.02% per year. The nominal value of the issue was 300 million lei, while banks subscribed 478.5 million lei, according to Agerpres.

A supplementary auction is scheduled for Friday through which the state aims to raise a further 44.6 million lei at the yield set on Thursday for the bonds.

Moreover, the ministry also raised 881.6 million lei through an issue of discount Treasury bills with a residual maturity of seven months, at an average yield of 6.06% per year. The value of the issue was 600 million lei, while banks subscribed 1.3 billion lei.

The Ministry of Finance (MF) has planned loans of 7.2 billion lei from commercial banks in August 2026. An additional amount of up to 15% of the nominal value awarded at the reference auctions may also be raised through supplementary non-competitive offer sessions organised exclusively for benchmark instruments.

The 7.2 billion Romanian lei provided for in the issuance prospectuses for discount treasury bills and benchmark government bonds is 1.3 billion lei lower than the amount scheduled for July 2026, which stood at 8.5 billion lei and the funds will be used for refinancing and early repayment of public debt, as well as financing the state budget deficit.
