Save Romania Union (USR) lawmaker Radu Miruta said on Wednesday, after the Muresan Government failed to earn Parliament's vote of confidence, that the situation gives the president the constitutional possibility of triggering early elections, stressing that USR would not allow "PSD to once again trample over Romania's finances."
He said USR would continue its cooperation with the National Liberal Party (PNL).
"Beyond the walls of Parliament, there is a Romania that has grown tired of these political games. For five months, Romanians have paid a sufficient price for politicians to play their games, a price that was paid because PSD walked away from the negotiating table. Today, we find ourselves in a situation which, from a constitutional perspective, gives the president the possibility of triggering early elections. What option the president chooses regarding the next steps remains to be seen," Miruta said.
He added that USR's position would depend on the president's decision.
"It is certain that we will continue our cooperation with the National Liberal Party and, as far as USR is concerned, we will not allow PSD to once again trample over Romania's finances," the MP specified.
The government proposed by Siegfried Muresan was voted down by Parliament in a joint sitting on Wednesday.
