President Nicusor Dan announced that he would convene consultations at Cotroceni Palace on Monday to designate a new candidate for prime minister.
"I will summon the parties to Cotroceni on Monday for consultations, and on Monday afternoon I will nominate a candidate for prime minister. I call upon the parties to use this time to hold their internal meetings and, this time, to come forward with solutions that can pass," the head of state declared on Wednesday in Prague, during a meeting with journalists accompanying him on his visit to the Czech Republic.
The Siegfried Muresan government was not invested by the joint plenary session of Parliament.
Out of a total of 464 members of parliament, 321 were present at Wednesday's session, and 197 valid votes were cast.
There were 182 votes in favor of the investiture and 15 votes against.
To be inaugurated, this Government needed the majority of deputies and senators, that is, a minimum of 233 votes "in favor".
AUR lawmakers were not present in the chamber, while PSD lawmakers were present but did not vote.
Siegfried Muresan was the third nominee for prime minister put forward by President Nicusor Dan following the dismissal of the Bolojan government via a no-confidence motion nearly five months ago, on May 5.
The head of state designated MEP Eugen Tomac to form the government on June 4, but he returned the mandate because he failed to secure a parliamentary majority.
Nicusor Dan's second choice was Adrian Vestea, who appeared before Parliament on June 22 for his investiture but failed to secure the necessary votes. The Adrian Vestea government was rejected, receiving 189 votes in favor and 23 against out of the 212 validly cast votes.
