The Ministry of Finance is preparing the Budget_NG application that will digitally take over data related to the 2026 budget, Minister of Finance Alexandru Nazare told a Tuesday's specialized event.
"The Ministry of Finance is preparing the Budget.NG application, which will basically digitally take over the data related to the 2026 budget from each ministry. So each minister, each ministry will upload data to this application and we will finally have a digital application on which to work on the budget. It was a desire of mine since 2021. I started this project in 2021 because, when we made the budget then, and it took about 3 months to make the budget then, I had to wait a day and a half to two until we ran a new version in the system. And it seemed to me, at the time, that we could no longer wait so long to run versions or scenarios from the budget because nothing was digitalized. And then we put some money into the PNRR for this digital application project and the project is only now starting to take shape. finalize, after a few good years. When I returned to the ministry, I found out what stage it was in and I accelerated it as much as possible, so that by the end of this year we would have a first pilot and the ministries would start using this application. An allocation of 4 million euros was proposed through the PNRR to improve the budget programming mechanism. In the Romanian Ministry of Finance, the Budget_NG application is used for the budget process. This application was designed internally in 2010, with the Ministry of Finance's own resources, with the support of ORACLE experts. The system was implemented starting in 2011 and is still in use today.
Discussions on next year's budget construction are expected to begin after November 15, and the deficit target for 2026 is 6%, the minister of finance said on Monday at a specialized event.
