Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri, responsible for coordinating policies on settling the Transnistrian conflict and bringing the two banks of the Dniester closer together, met with Romania's ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Cristian-Leon Turcanu, to discuss the Chisinau government's reintegration priorities and bilateral cooperation in this field.

According to a message posted by ambassador Turcanu on his Facebook page, the two officials reviewed ways to support efforts promoting convergence policies between the two banks of the Dniester, with a focus on socio-economic challenges. The ambassador reiterated that Romania backs Moldova's strategy for reintegrating the Transnistrian region through a peaceful, gradual and irreversible approach, as part of the country's European integration process.

The ambassador congratulated Valeriu Chiveri on taking up his new mandate and assured him of Romania's support - both institutional and personal - in his work, according to Agerpres.

Chiveri outlined the Moldovan government's current reintegration priorities and the activities planned for the immediate period, MOLDPRES reports.

Moldovan authorities are advancing draft regulations aimed at improving fiscal and customs reintegration for economic operators in the Transnistrian region. They are also finalising the mechanism for rendering the Convergence Fund operational, which is expected to bring additional benefits to residents of the country's eastern districts.

The deputy prime minister thanked Romania for its consistent support to the Republic of Moldova, including through projects benefiting both banks of the Dniester in education, culture, economic development and strengthening energy security.

At the end of the meeting, the two officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining permanent dialogue and close cooperation in areas of shared interest.
