More than 20 migrants were discovered on Monday hidden in a truck loaded with furniture on its way to Switzerland, checked before leaving the country through the Nadlac II border crossing point, the Turkish driver being under criminal investigation.
"A 54-year-old Turkish citizen presented himself for the border formalities on the way out of the country. The man was driving a truck registered in Turkey and, according to the documents accompanying the goods, was transporting furniture on the Turkey-Switzerland route. On the basis of the risk profile, a thorough check of the means of transportation was carried out, after which the border police officers discovered 21 foreign citizens in the compartment intended for the transportation of goods," informed the Arad Border Police.
Following investigations, it was established that all those hidden in the truck are from Syria.
The driver is being investigated for migrant smuggling, while the illegal travelers are being investigated for attempted fraudulent crossing of the state border.
