The story of the daily life of Romanians who lived in the decades after the Second World War and until 1989 will be told by over 100 exhibits at the Museum of Memories of Communism (MAdC), to be inaugurated in central Brasov on April 1.
The permanent collection of MAdC will present photographs, objects and testimonies that capture the personal side and complete the historical data about Romania under the communist regime, reads a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.
"Every aspect of everyday life under communism, from the smallest gestures and objects, to the bravest actions, have shaped the society we live in today. We wanted the museum to be a space where we could find the answers to all the questions that those born after '89 might have and, at the same time, to represent a link between the current generations and those of parents and grandparents, a gesture that will bring more understanding and appreciation," said, according to the cited source, Alina Beteringhe, anthropologist and founder of the museum space.
The objects and testimonies that will be exhibited have been collected since 2021 through the #MAdCesidespretine (it is also about you) Campaign, Agerpres.ro informs.
The museum is housed in the former Capitol Hotel in downtown Brasov, a building representative of the communist period, when a store operated here. The cultural space will offer, in the same building, a permanent exhibition area, an area dedicated to temporary exhibitions, a cafe that recreates the atmosphere of the communist period through the selection of products specific to the era, as well as a unique souvenir shop that will function online, as well, on the website www.madc.ro.
The first temporary exhibition of the museum is dedicated to the collection of BD Historia magazines - historical comics. The magazine, initiated by the author and professor of comics Mihai I. Grajdeanu, adapts the historical moments in the form of graphic comics.
At the same time, the museum will be a point of support for non-governmental organizations, with the space to be exploited every Monday for various cultural and social activities organized by Romanian NGOs. In addition to the tourism activity it will carry out, MAdC aims to actively participate in the involvement and inclusion of children from disadvantaged backgrounds in cultural and educational activities, by establishing strategic partnerships with NGOs and social directorates.
The Museum of Memories of Communism is a social enterprise established within the project "Accelerator of Social Enterprises", co-financed by the European Social Fund through the Human Capital Operational Program 2014-2020, implemented by the "Together with You" Romania Foundation, in partnership with Fonduri-Structurale.ro.
