Romania is a responsible and active NATO ally, and membership in the Alliance remains a key pillar of national security, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) said on NATO Day.
According to the Ministry, NATO Day was marked by military ceremonies both in the country and in the theatres of operations where Romanian troops are deployed.
On the occasion, Romania's national flag and the NATO flag were raised, and the national anthem and the NATO anthem were performed, the Ministry said in a post on its Facebook page on Monday.
Under Law No. 390/2004, NATO Day is marked in Romania on the first Sunday of April, with the country having deposited its instrument of ratification of the Washington Treaty with the US Department of State on March 29, 2004, followed by the raising of the Romanian flag at NATO Headquarters during the ministerial meeting on April 2, 2004.
