Romania's natural population growth was further in the negative this August at -343, yet in a considerable improvement from the same month of 2016 (-2,158), shows data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The number of children born in August was 20,112, by 2,502 more than in July 2017. "The number of live births was by 3,093 higher in August 2017 compared to the same month of 2016, while the number of deaths was by 1,224 higher than in August 2016. Natural growth was negative both in August 2017 (-343) and in August 2016 (-2,158)," reads the document.
The number of marriages registered in August was 23,617, by 1,096 more YoY. The number of divorces pronounced under final court rulings and in compliance with Law No202/2010 was 2,563, by 411 more then in July 2017 and 897 more YoY. The number of deaths recorded in August 2017 was 20,455, by 886 more than in July 2017. The natural population growth was a negative - 343. The number of dead infants aged less than 1 year was 108, by 13 less than in July 2017.
