Ombudsman Victor Ciorbea conveyed on Tuesday to the Romanian Radio Company's (SRR) representatives that the exercise of the unconstitutionality challenge regarding the law through which several fees and duties are eliminated, among which the radio-television fee is belated, because the two days deadline, from the bill's adoption by the two Chambers of Parliament in emergency proceeding, had been fulfilled.
"The people in question can address a petition in order to raise an unconstitutionality exception, only after the bill comes into force," an Ombudsman release sent to Agerpres informs. The Ombudsman met on Tuesday with a delegation of the SRR.
In the opinion of the SRR representatives, the removal of the respective fee is contrary to the 31 article paragraph 1 of the Romanian Constitution, which stipulates the fact that "a person's right to have access to any information of public interest cannot be restricted."
The petition's signatories stated, among others, that the radio-television fee is the main funding source of the SRR, and its removal radically modifies the autonomous and independent existence of public media services.
