Opposition Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), S.O.S. Romania, the Party of Young People (POT) on Tuesday tabled with the Chamber of Deputies a motion of censure against the Ciolacu Government called "Prime Minister NORDIS must go, Romanians are tired of humiliation".
The motion is signed by AUR, S.O.S. Romania, POT MPs, non-affiliated MPs and one from minorities, AUR leader George Simion said earlier.
"What should have happened a long time ago, even since December last year, will happen now, at the beginning of spring. Marcel Ciolacu must leave the office of prime minister. We no longer want to have Iliescu's children at the helm of Romania, we no longer want to have corruption. (...) With the signatures of AUR, SOS, POT, non-affiliated and with a signature from a representative of the minority group - we hope that there will be more votes from the minority lawmakers - today we are tabling the motion 'Prime Minister NORDIS must go'. We thank Mrs Ioana Grosaru, representative of the Italian minority, we hope from the bottom of our hearts that the Czechs and the Slovaks and the Tatars and the Turks and the representatives of other minorities will vote. We understand that there is great disturbance in some offices, and we are told that Marcel Ciolacu must stay for stability. We do not know what this stability is when elections are voided, in which judges are threatened, in which members of the Constitutional Court defy democracy," Simion told a news conference the House of Parliament.
According to the AUR leader, a caretaker government "without pressure levers" can ensure the return to democracy and the re-entry into the constitutional framework.
S.O.S. Romania announced tabling a motion of censure last week, but the approach was postponed. Floor leader of the AUR senators Petrisor Peiu said then that 154 signatures were collected for its submission, but the signatures of the Save Romania Union (USR) lawmakers are expected until Wednesday, February 26. USR announced, however, that the party's lawmakers will not sign a motion of censure with the "isolationists"
