The 13th edition of the International Seminar 'Penser l'Europe' will take place on Thursday and Friday in the Aula of the Romanian Academy, with the European Union's position vis-a-vis the major global powers, particularly the United States and China, among the topics to be discussed.
Organised by the National Foundation for Science and Art, in cooperation with the Institut de France (in particular, the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences), the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences of Spain and the Romanian Academy, this year's edition will focus on the theme 'The European Union towards 2030: Enlargement, power, cultures: towards a federation or a confederation?'/'L'Union europeenne a l'horizon 2030. Elargissement, puissance, cultures: vers une federation ou une confederation?'.
According to a press release posted on the Romanian Academy's website, against the backdrop of profound geopolitical transformations, strategic realignments and multiple challenges to the democratic order and international cooperation, the seminar aims to provide a framework for reflection and dialogue on the future of the European project.
Over the two days of discussions, prominent figures from academia, international relations experts, economists, cultural figures and decision-makers from several European countries will examine the main challenges and opportunities emerging for the European Union as it looks towards 2030.
Topics for discussion include the prospects for European integration; the European Union's position vis-a-vis the major global powers, particularly the United States and China; the future of European cultural universalism; the impact of enlargement on the cohesion and functioning of the Union; and relations and mutual influences between Europe and its neighbourhood, including Russia, the Near and Middle East, and Africa.
The International Seminar 'Penser l'Europe' is one of the most important forums for intellectual dialogue devoted to the future of Europe, having brought together prestigious voices from academic, cultural and diplomatic circles for more than two decades.
